Quantcast Smallbiz Central: Read term sheets carefully then ask for help!
Read term sheets carefully then ask for help!

First I would say that you need a good investment banker on your advisory board.  Then you need to make sure that you understand the term sheets.  Consult with a good lawyer who specializes in the type of investor you are seeking.  Communicate.  Don't take a business partner that you don't admire as a person and want to spend a considerable amount of time with.  If they have experience in your type of business that is a big plus.
I would advise you to speak with Angels.  After owning your business for 14 years it is probably going to be hard for you to work with a VC.
Good Luck.  A business partner or investor can bring a world of experience to your business and new insights and connections or it can be the biggest nightmare that you can ever imagine.
